Lucas Water Heater Installation
Effective September 2007, the Texas State Legislature enacted into the Plumbing License Law additional wording to specifically include water heaters in their list of plumbing fixtures, required by law, to have a plumbing permit issued prior to installation. In addition, the law provides that such installations be done according to current codes by a Lucas TX licensed water heater technician and inspected by a licensed plumbing inspector.
Water Heater Installation Requirements In Lucas
All water heaters require a permit and inspection. Water heater drain pans are required on all heaters installed inside the house. Water heater drain pans must be in a 1 ½” deep pan with a 1” drain line to outside or an approved receptor. If there is no way to drain to outside a wags valve is required. Water heaters installed in garages or attics must have exposed water pipes insulated. Water heaters must be elevated 18” off garage floor. Pressure relief valve (t & P) discharge pipe shall discharge outside no less than 6” above ground and no more than 24” above ground or in an approved indirect waste receptor. A ball valve on cold water pipe to water heater to shut off water is required.
Gas Water Heater requirements: Upper and lower combustion air must be installed when a water heater is installed in a closet. Combustion air is required to be 100 sq. in. minimum in the upper part of the closet and the lower part. Must have 1” clearance on type B water heater vent from all combustible materials and observe manufactures specifications. Gas stop must be of ball valve type and must be able to shut off by hand. Maximum length of flex gas pipe is 36” and minimum of ½” size.
